AREVA Solar are typically involved in projects that include the design, construction, testing, commissioning & handover of large scale solar thermal booster & power plant projects of which Kogan Creek will be of major importance.
The Federal Government has recently announced funding under its Renewable Energy Demonstration Programme for a 44 MW Solar Steam BoosterutilisingAREVA’s proprietary and tested Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector solar thermal technology. This projectwill deliver steam to supplement CS Energy’s existing 750 MW Coal Fired Power Plant (A) in Kogan Creek, Queensland.
Solar Dawn, a JV including AREVA Solar has also been announced as a preferred tenderer for a 250 MWe solar power plant at Kogan Creek for the Federal Government’s Solar Flagships programme.
As a result oftheseinternationally significant projects, AREVA Solar will appoint an experienced, qualified Project Engineer, to work alongside the Project Manager, to oversee theengineering of this important construction project.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Director with a ‘dotted line’ to theDirector of ProjectEngineering .
The Project Engineer’s role is a ‘hands-on’ and ‘sleeves rolled up’ role to represent AREVA Solar on site at Kogan Creek, Queensland, make decisions on product and other project works and assist the Project Director to ensure that the project is delivered successfully within contracted parameters. Based in Kogan Creek, QLD, the PE will work closely with CS Energy, the EPC contractor and other 3rd party contractors in Queensland, the other members of AREVA Solar’s Australian team and when required, liaise directly with AREVA Engineering personnel in the USA.
There will be regular domestic travel to and from Brisbane for client meetings, to NSW and occasionally to AREVA Solar’s HQ in Mountain View California for regular discussions and for approximately one week’s induction and orientation.
Responsibilities
• Provides technical support for construction of AREVA Solar’s product.
• Coordinates engineering response to site questions and issues, particularly as they relate to AREVA product and its installation.
• Maintains engineering document control including drawings and RFIs.
• Assists Project Director in successful execution of all aspects of Project.
• Actively promotes site safety, OHS & Environmental compliance to required standards.
• Ensure Engineers, Contractors and Company equipment suppliers are in compliance with Company’s Quality Assurance program and works closely with them to achieve project metrics, including integration of effort.
• Review external consultants, subcontractors and equipment supplier’s design drawings, design standards and equipment specifications for compliance with Company standard. Constructability and conformance.
• Liaise with AREVA Solar Engineering to ensure that designs and all technical documentation are completed in accordance with the schedule and communicated in accordance with the Construction Execution Guide
• Identify and evaluate technical issues and events that may constitute an increase or decrease in project or service scope, cost, or schedule.
• Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports. Prepare reports for submittal to regulatory agencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineering Director

• Review of EPC work packages.
• HAZOP & constructability reviews.
• Review & action Product Change Notices.
• Assist in Field Commissioning.
• Dispute resolution.
Ideal Person
• Bachelor of Engineering Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
• Eligible for/or member of IE Aust
• 10 years + experience in Power Generation, Oil, Gas or Petrochemical industries and/or Process Industries
• Strong experience on-site with construction projects
• Qld professional engineer registration desirable
• Project Management exposure/qualifications desirable
• Ability to interact with all levels throughout AREVA, Clients & Contractors
• Excellent ‘presentation’ with the experience and stature to gain credibility
• Knowledge of relevant codes and practices
• A proven ability to work independently on challenging and time-constrained projects
• A self-starter who can thrive in a dynamic team environment
• Demonstrated team leadership and management skills
• Commercially astute
• Excellent English language written and verbal communication and client relationship skills
